The client, a surgeon, discovered his NPI credentials were being associated with healthcare entities without his knowledge. After months of trying to track where his NPI was registered and used, he identified a broader issue affecting physicians.
This led him to create NPI Shield to ensure transparency, monitoring, and control over healthcare identities

NPI Shield gives physicians real-time visibility into how their NPI is being used. It brings credential activity into one place so doctors can easily see what’s happening around their identity. The system sends instant alerts when something doesn’t look right, helping physicians catch potential misuse early before it becomes a legal issue.
Challenges we faced
The biggest challenge was meeting strict healthcare privacy requirements while complying with Apple App Store and Google Play review standards. The app underwent multiple review cycles to validate security controls, data handling, permissions, and compliance before approval.

The mobile app was designed to feel easy and natural for physicians. From checking NPI activity to getting alerts, everything flows smoothly, so users can understand and act without confusion or effort.
NPI shield - a physician-centric NPI protection system
NPI Shield is a mobile-first platform that brings fragmented NPI credential activity into one centralized dashboard, giving physicians real-time visibility into their professional identity footprint.
Despite being a complex healthcare application, the project was delivered in 1.5 months through parallel execution. Leveraging the CMS NPPES public registry removed data sourcing risk and ensured accurate physician data from day one. AWS with a signed BAA provided HIPAA-conscious security, encryption, and access controls at the infrastructure level.
The mobile application was developed in React Native with a Node.js backend for both iOS and Android. The system integrates with structured NPI datasets to track credential activity and generate alerts for unusual changes in real time.
